Cielo's Acne Journey

How long have you experienced acne for?
"I’ve been dealing with acne since I was 16 years old. It’s been a long road of difficult phases but it’s definitely taught me so much about patience and being kind to myself. "
What has been the most challenging part of your acne journey?
The challenging part was most likely the mental battle of waking up and letting the state of my skin in my mirror dictate how I’ll feel about my face for the rest of the day. It’s exhausting to feel like your skin is the first and only thing people see when they look at you or talk to you.
What has helped you gain confidence?
"Something that’s helped me gain confidence is shifting my mindset from perfection to community and self expression! Embracing my love for style and beauty even with my acne, rather than waiting to start my life when my skin cleared. I made the leap and realized confidence isn’t about being flawless, it’s about how you carry yourself and show up regardless of your skin condition."
What do you wish more people understood about acne?
"Acne is not a reflection of hygiene or lack of self care. It’s complex, often hormonal or genetic, which is completely normal, but a break out does not mean you’re not doing enough."

Cielo's Personal Growth and Advice

How has acne changed your perspective on beauty, especially the standards that often exist on social media?
"It has definitely broke the illusion of the beauty standards social media tends to set. It’s forced me to find beauty outside of hiding behind a filter. It’s taught me you can still love makeup while embracing my real skin and feel completely confident!"
What advice would you give to your younger self or someone currently struggling with acne?
"Stop waiting until your skin clears up the live the life you dream of. You lose so much time waiting for the perfect skin day to feel good. Wear the outfits you want. Take the photos or post the content, go out to enjoy life unapologetically and don’t let a breakout shrink your presence."
