Lizzy's Acne Journey

How long have you experienced acne for?
"I've had acne ever since I was 14 years old, so eight years now."
What has been the most challenging part of your acne journey?
"The most challenging part about having acne is managing the different stages my skin goes through, one day it feels like it's finally clearing up and the next day it's back to square one its also super painful at times, emotionally and physically."
What has helped you gain confidence?
"I've gained more confidence once I realized it's a mental battle. And acne is beautiful regardless of what it looks like. Once I stopped telling myself acne is ugly it cleared up because I became less stressed about it and didn't let it control my feelings."
What do you wish more people understood about acne?
"I wish people understood that acne is truly beautiful and it's what makes you you! It shouldn't stop you from trying new things, meeting new people, feeling beautiful. "

Lizzy's Personal Growth and Advice

How has acne changed your perspective on beauty, especially the standards that often exist on social media?
"Acne changed my perspective on beauty in a way I never expected, i started to appreciate the beauty of real skin, acne is unique, I used to get down looking at all the beautiful clear faces on social media but that shouldn't take away from our beauty."
What advice would you give to your younger self or someone currently struggling with acne?
"My baby brother is actually going through the same thing I was going through at 15. I would say surround yourself with people who make you feel beautiful no matter what, those people who never point out what stage your acne is at. Don't forget to appreciate the beautiful life in front of you and all the adventures still to come. Acne shouldn't hold you back from living fully."
